Fence Maintenance & Staining

Keep your fence looking great and lasting longer. Simple, material-by-material maintenance tips for East Tennessee's climate.

Wood Fence Maintenance

Wood is the highest-maintenance material, and worth it when cared for. Clean it annually, and stain or seal every 2–4 years to protect against East Tennessee's humidity and UV. Sealing keeps color rich and fights rot, warping and mildew.

When to Stain a New Wood Fence

Let new pressure-treated wood dry out for a few weeks to months before staining so it accepts the product. We're happy to advise on timing and the best products.

Vinyl Fence Maintenance

Practically none. Rinse with a hose, and use mild soap for stubborn spots. No painting, staining or sealing, ever.

Aluminum Fence Maintenance

Also minimal. The powder-coat finish resists rust and fading; an occasional rinse keeps it looking sharp.

Chain Link Maintenance

Very low. Check tension and gate hardware occasionally; black powder-coated chain link resists corrosion.
